Join us for an immersive workshop where you'll learn the history, techniques, and cultural significance of the koto, all while experiencing the unique elegance of playing in a traditional yukata. Whether you're a seasoned musician or a curious beginner, this workshop promises a transformative journey into Japanese culture and mindfulness.
Workshop Details Schedule
15:00 - Self-Introduction
- Meet and greet with fellow participants, setting the stage for a warm and engaging session.
15:15 - Origin of the Koto and Its Parts
- Delve into the rich history of the koto and get acquainted with its various components.
15:25 - Why Koto for a "Beautiful Brain"
- Understand the cognitive and mental benefits of playing the koto, and how it fosters a beautiful and healthy mind.
15:40 - Demonstration
- Witness a live demonstration showcasing the elegance and beauty of koto music, performed by our expert instructor.
15:50 - Hands-On Experience (Video Included)
- Try your hand at playing the koto yourself. With your permission, a part of the video will be shared on our Instagram, and you'll receive a copy to keep as a memorable souvenir.
16:30 - Sharing Time
- Reflect on your experience, share your thoughts, and connect with fellow participants.
Meet Your Instructor: Utakikei Omura
Professor of Ikuta School Koto Music
Biography:
- 1978: Began studying under Prof. Chinka Muramatsu (sister of Suzubo Aoki I).
- January 20, Showa 60: Achieved Shiden level.
- January 20, 1988: Achieved Chuden level.
- January 20, 2002: Achieved Okuden level.
- January 20, 2009: Became a Professor of Ikuta School Koto.
Performance Highlights:
- Regular performances at prestigious events such as the Koganei Park Moon-viewing Event, Shirakiku-kai, Aoba-kai, and more.
- May 2009: Guest performer at "Wa no Tsudoi."
- October 2009: Performed at "Natsukikai" at Koshigaya Noh Theater.
- March 2008: Featured at "Traditional Performing Arts Presentation" (Soka City Cultural Center).
- November 2020: Conducted a "Technical Exposition" harp class.
- September 2022: Launched online classes at "Yokohama Japanese."
- October 2022: Participated in "Cos x Zombie x Koto" event in Asakusa and "Aoi no Bi Kimono Academy 30th Anniversary Ceremony."
- April 2023: Performed at "Kanto Concert" at Nakano ZERO Hall.
- July 2023: Featured in the "Ikuta School Association Regular Concert" at the National Theatre of Japan.
- September 2023: Taught a culture lesson at Japanese Language School TSC Japan K.K.
- November 2023: Participated in "Shirakikukai" at Musashino Performing Arts Center.
- December 2023: Featured in "Tsukiji Matsuri" at the Association for the Tradition of Miko and Miko Culture, Inc.
- March 2024: Will perform at "Miko Enka" (Shrine Maiden Fair) at Yurakucho Kotsu Kaikan.
- Regular performances at Ikuta Kai, Otemachi Sankei Hall, Tokyo.
